Events and Wellness Opportunities

Finley Recreation holds regular fitness and wellness events, including group exercise classes, workshops, intramural leagues, blood drives, CPR classes, outdoor events, and a stress relief program at the end of each semester.

You can also participate in the student olympics, intramurals, and the student fitness challenge or join the Student Health Advisory Council or Outdoor Adventure Club.

Olympics

This ongoing student challenge has designated periods of competition each semester. You compete to set both semester and all-time campus records. If you set a set semester record, you win a T-shirt, and if you set an all-time campus record, we place your name on the oversized record board inside of the Fitness Center. And most important of all, you win bragging rights. This competition includes an Academic Program Challenge where the program with the most participation wins prizes for each student who competes.

There are 14 events in which you may compete, including bench press, mile run, squat, deadlift, 4,000-meter relay row, hula hoop, basketball free throws, etc.

For a complete list of events, visit the Finley Recreation Center.

Student Fitness Challenge

The Student Fitness Challenge is a Portland Campus incentive program aimed at encouraging students to exercise 150 or more minutes per week. It is an interprofessional challenge as academic programs compete against one another for the duration of a semester for Finley Recreation Center swag such as apparel, hats, towels, and bags. You are encouraged to self-report your weekly minutes spent exercising either at the Front Desk iPad or by using the form below.

All entries must be submitted by 9 a.m. on Mondays (submissions are time-stamped). Late submissions will not be factored into results. The full program description and rules will be sent to 91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵemail addresses at the start of each semester’s challenge.

Current standings are posted on our Bulletin Board in the Fitness Center. For more information, please contact Colleen Lundgren.

Intramurals

A great opportunity to participate in friendly play to connect with other 91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵindividuals, hone your skills at a sport or two, and have some fun while doing it. Teams play in weekly sessions or small tournaments. Intramural activities are held at Gullivers Field (PDF).

Outdoor Recreation

The student-led Outdoor Adventure Club and the Finley Recreation Center co-sponsor trips such as white water rafting, hiking, rock/ice climbing, and ski/snowboarding. Are you new to outdoor pursuits? Beginner trips are offered frequently.
