Dr. Ortengren was born in Sweden and immigrated to Tacoma, Washington as a child. He is a 1979 graduate of Washington State University.
Dr. Ortengren attended Georgetown University School of Dentistry in Washington DC. After graduation in 1983, he and his wife moved to Summit, NJ, where he accepted a position as an associate dentist in a large family practice. In the spring of 1987, Dr. Ortengren and his wife moved to Maine. They have two grown children now and call southern Maine home.
Dr. Ortengren has been a member of the American Dental Association since 1979 and an active member of the Maine Dental Association and Greater Portland Dental Society since moving to Maine in 1987. He is a former president of the Greater Portland Dental Society and recipient of the 1997 Maine Dental Association President's Award for leading the successful campaign to fluoridate the largest water supply in southern Maine.
In his spare time, Dr. Ortengren enjoys photography, paintings, and building model wooden ships. He's also an avid skier, hiker, boater, and fly fisherman.
