College of Pharmacy hosts Know Your Medication event
91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵ College of Pharmacy students and faculty invited members of the community to come learn about the medications they are taking during the Know Your Medication event.
Members of the public were encouraged to bring in their prescription medications, and over the counter vitamins and supplements, to receive a no cost review and ask questions.
The event was an educational opportunity that allowed community members to go back and meet with their doctors before National Drug Take Back day on April 26, should they need to adjust their medications.
91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵexperts reviewed expiration dates, drug interactions and provide answers to medication-related questions.
recently spoke with Robert L. McCarthy, Ph.D., dean of the College of Pharmacy, and student Kelly Banks (Pharmacy, ’20) about the event.
"When you go to your doctor, you don't always tell them, ‘I take this multivitamin, I take this natural supplement to help me sleep,’ and without your doctor knowing that, they may be prescribing something to you and you may not know they may be affecting each other," Banks told WGME.
Know Your Medication was held on Saturday, April 6.
