Jodie Hermann appointed ringside physician for USA Boxing
For two weeks Jodie Hermann, D.O., assistant professor and chair in the Department of Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, sat ringside in Budapest, Hungary, as members of the USA Boxing youth team took on the world.
Hermann was there to take care of the young boxers鈥 injuries and illnesses, as well as to help them make their weight categories.
鈥淭hese are a strong, driven, committed, passionate group of people who work very hard in their sport,鈥 says Hermann.
USA Boxing is a feeder program for the U.S. Olympic Boxing Team. The male and female boxers on the youth team, all under the age of eighteen, captured three gold medals and one bronze medal.
Hermann was visiting the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado when USA Boxing鈥檚 athletic trainer asked if she would like to become the team鈥檚 ringside physician. Hermann accepted the offer.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a great adventure, and it鈥檚 always nice to help,鈥 she says.
Hermann says she will take her experiences in Hungary and pass them on to her students.
She hits the road again in early October to work with the elite team, boxers over the age of 18. They鈥檒l be competing in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the U.S. National Qualifiers.
