UNE's Leslie Ochs participates in Academic Leadership Fellows Program debates
Leslie Ochs, Pharm.D., Ph.D., MSPH, assistant professor in the College of Pharmacy, has taken part in the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP) Interim meeting, held February 25-28 in Puerto Rico. As part of the event, she joined her colleagues in the Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP) for a series of three debates.
In the first debate, Ochs and the ALFP Cohort presented the topic 鈥淰alues-based leaders are best equipped to help their academic organizations reach their goals.鈥 They then explored the issue of pharmacy school enrollment in a debate titled 鈥淚n turbulent times, pharmacy school leaders must take aggressive action to stabilize and increase enrollment.鈥 The ALFP Cohort concluded by tackling the subject 鈥淟eadership style must differ to reflect generational differences in the Academy.鈥 Following true debate style, two teams of Fellows presented opposing sides of the issues. Each debate culminated with a question and answer session from the audience.
As a member of the ALFP, Ochs has participated in three sessions designed to support and contribute to the development of leaders in academic pharmacy and higher education. The highly selective, year-long program provides an opportunity for Fellows to expand relationships with peers and colleagues in other institutions, as well as within the college and university. Ochs鈥 participation in the program culminates with a graduation ceremony at the AACP annual meeting this July.
