Maine Public Radio鈥檚 "Speaking in Maine" program features two Center for Global Humanities events
On December 14, Maine Public Radio, as part of its public affairs lecture series program "Speaking in Maine," featured two recent talks at UNE, both of which were Center for Global Humanities (CGH) Lecture Series events.
Part one of the "Speaking in Maine" episode showcased "The Dumbest Generation: Young Americans in the Digital Age,鈥 a talk given by Mark Bauerlein, professor of English at Emory University and author of several books, including the critically-acclaimed The Dumbest Generation; How the Digital Age Stupefies Young Americans and Jeopardizes Our Future. Bauerlein spoke at 91直播视频on November 6, arguing that people in their teens and twenties are missing out on the moral and intellectual instruction that previous generations received from great books and works of art.
The second segment highlighted CGH鈥檚 November 17 speaker, Jason Brennan, who delivered a talk titled 鈥淚s Democracy Just?鈥 Brennan, the Robert J. and Elizabeth Flanagan Family Chair of Strategy, Economics, Ethics, and Public Policy at Georgetown University and author of several books, drew from his controversial work Against Democracy to advocate for the exploration of other, potentially better, forms of government.
