Meghan May writes column for ‘Huffington Post’ about anthrax outbreak in Siberia

Meghan May

Meghan May, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences in the 91ֱƵ’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, penned a recent column that was published by the Huffington Post titled, “Of Climate Change, Permafrost, and…World War III?”

She discussed a recent outbreak of anthrax in Siberia caused by an infected reindeer that died several decades ago. The deer had been frozen in permafrost and surfaced as permafrost has melted in Siberia at a higher rate than usual. In the column, May explored the possibility of a similar situation arising with small pox.
