High school students compete in ocean sciences bowl at UNE

The 91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵ’s Department of Marine Sciences and the Marine Science Center hosted the 2016 Nor'easter Bowl on Saturday, February 6, 2016. The winning team comprised of Brittany Catling, Malcolm Hughes, Madison Lavigne and Michel Krueger came from York High School.

The Nor’easter Bowl is a regional competition of the , an annual academic competition that tests high school students’ knowledge of marine sciences. The competition includes marine biology, chemistry, physics, oceanography, geology, geography, engineering, history, and policy questions. The goal of the NOSB is to support and expand ocean sciences education and enhance public understanding and stewardship of the oceans. Each year, approximately 2,000 students from 300 schools across the nation compete for prizes and a trip to compete in the national competition.

The winners will advance to the NOSB Finals Competition held in April 2016 at the University of North Carolina Institute of Marine Sciences in Morehead City, NC. The theme for this year’s Finals Competition is
