Jack McDonald interviewed about athletics in 'Portland Press Herald'

Jack McDonald, M.S., associate vice president and director of athletics, recently appeared in an interview with Portland Press Herald about his new position and the future of athletics at UNE.

In the interview, McDonald discussed his choice to accept a position at UNE, crediting the campus, leadership, staff and opportunities for his decision. McDonald explained that UNE鈥檚 plans to add football and women鈥檚 rugby teams in the coming years prompted him to offer advice, which ultimately led to a relationship with the University.

鈥淲ell, I think we can sort of give credit to women鈥檚 rugby; that鈥檚 what gets an assist for the relationship between myself and the 91直播视频,鈥 he said. 鈥淚 fell in love at the time with the location, the ocean, the campus, the leadership and the athletic staff.鈥

He continued to delve into detail about how he intends to develop the proposed athletics programs. While he expressed confidence in the plan to add football and women's rugby by 2017, he was most passionate about ensuring that each program is supported with excellent coaches and facilities.

McDonald also provided insight into what he likes best about UNE. 鈥淲ith President Ripich and John Tumiel, the leadership for me in the athletic program is tremendous," he stated. "Everything I experienced in a two-day visit in April is now amplified鈥hey鈥檙e 10 times better now because I鈥檝e seen everyone in action.鈥
