91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵAssistant Professor of Applied Exercise Science Lara Carlson, Ph.D., FACSM, who has a faculty appointment with the U. S. Department of Veterans Affairs, was joined by 91Ö±²¥ÊÓƵstudents Cara Fowler ’14, an applied exercise science (AES) major, Alison Stanley AES ‘14, and Sarah Lamberton, AES ’15 in supporting the 4th annual VA2K Walk and Roll at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs facility in Saco, Maine.
The VA2K encourages individuals to embrace healthy lifestyle choices that sustain and improve health and well-being. The event also helps the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to raise awareness and support the needs of homeless veterans. It is estimated that at any given time there are more than 100 homeless veterans in Maine.
More than 25,000 people at 170 U. S. Veterans Affairs facilities throughout the country participated in the VA2K last year. Carlson and students had an educational table, which provided veterans with information regarding the importance of physical activity in promoting overall health and function.
