Barry Costa-Pierce serves as keynote speaker at Bay of Fundy Seafood Forum
Barry Costa-Pierce, Ph.D., FAAAS, Henry L. & Grace Doherty Professor and chair of the Department of Marine Sciences and director of the Marine Science Center, served as the keynote speaker at the Bay of Fundy Seafood Forum, which was held in St. Andrews, New Brunswick, June 11-12, 2013.
Costa-Pierce discussed how to better meet the world鈥檚 increasing need for high quality seafood in a manner that aligns aquaculture with fisheries and a global model of sustainable protein production. He outlined new, more integrated approaches to managing aquaculture growth that includes lessons from the fishing industry worldwide. He also spoke about new tools and outlined key ecological, social and institutional touchstones that are needed to ensure that aquaculture enhances fisheries and meets food demand and economic targets without causing environmental degradation.
